What did the station observe?
The observatory studied variable stars, precise time, solar radiation and weather. Its separate measuring station also tracked the Earth’s magnetic field. Original photographs, documents and references are collected in the historical chronicle.

New projects build on that history.
The Ústecká hvězdárna association is working to restore the site and develop projects in astronomy, geophysics and technology. They include the measuring station, the PRIM stratospheric mission and observing wildlife and the sky from a lookout near the observatory.

Where is the observatory?
The site lies in Liboňov near Telnice, not far from Ústí nad Labem in northern Czechia. The Ore Mountains and Tisá Rocks are nearby. As restoration continues, please check current visiting options in advance.

The Ústecká hvězdárna association is developing the project. Its chairman, Vít Musílek, also initiated the collaboration with Czech watchmaker PRIM on a stratospheric project that carries the observatory’s story further.
